So for today’s post I wanted to talk to you about inspiration. Fashion inspiration to be exact. Ever since I can remember, I have always been passionate about clothing, putting together outfits, and creating unique looks- hence the creation of this blog. However, I can guarantee that even the best dressed people you know sometimes get stuck in the habit of wearing and/or purchasing the same clothing items over and over again- and I will be the first one to admit that this happens to me more often than not.
And when I say this I don’t mean your can’t be drawn to a certain cut, or that having a personal style is bad- of course it isn’t! As cliche as it sounds, having a personal style is what makes us all unique! However, sometimes it’s nice to switch things up, especially if you are someone who tends to only wear a select few items.
I also know that I would have never picked out some of my favorite clothing items if someone else hadn’t suggested I try them on first, or if I hadn’t seen that item on another person before I bought it. So although you as an individual are the one who ultimately decides whether or not you like an outfit, getting inspiration from other sources can actually be a great tool while forming your own personal style! And with that, lets get right into it! My favorite ways to find outfit inspiration!
Pinterest- I’ll be honest- I feel like Pinterest is essentially the holy grail for fashion inspiration- and I often find myself scrolling through different outfits for hours on end. Also, speaking of Pinterest, I am currently in the midst of reworking my account so everything is fashion related… you guys can check it out here. It’s still a bit rough but I’m hoping to have it perfected sometime in the near future.
Clothing Stores- I know- I feel this one is almost too obvious to include; however I couldn’t leave it out because if I’m honest, most of my inspiration comes from sifting through clothes in the mall. Think about it- ever time you walk into a store, you are immediately greeted with well dressed workers, mannequins styled to the tee, and racks upon racks of clothing. You get to see all of the latest trends and newest products, and even if you don’t purchase anything- window shopping is a great way to spark up your outfit building creativity! Also, now that online shopping is becoming more popular- you can find exactly what you are looking for without having to drive to every store within a twenty mile radius… (not that I’ve ever done that)
Celebrities/TV Characters- Another great way to find outfit inspiration is through celebrities and characters from TV shows and movies. I feel like almost every girl has at least one celebrity girl crush, and I often follow celebrities on Instagram simply for fashion inspiration. I also get a lot of inspiration from TV shows and movies, and have even cut holes in my shirt after seeing Mean Girls… no I’m totally kidding! However, I have to admit that I follow almost every girl who went onto the bachelor/bachelorette… I don’t know if it’s just me, but I feel like they all have the best style! (cough cough Amanda Stanton…)
YouTube- YouTube is another area that I couldn’t leave out because in a lot of ways that is what got me interested in blogging. I know that blogging and YouTube aren’t the same thing; however, before I discovered the blogging world, I would often spend hours watching beauty gurus and even contemplated starting my own channel before I created my blog… But who knows? Maybe YouTube will be in my future… anything can happen right?
Other Fashion Blogs- And if I am going to include YouTubers, I have to mention other fashion blogs right? I feel like it would be wrong not to. It’s funny though because I actually don’t have a huge amount of fashion blogs I check in on regularly. I actually read more food/lifestyle blogs, and get my fashion inspiration from other sources. However, there are two fashion blogs that I consistently check in on and those two are Emtalks (left) and Southern Pearls and Curls (right). I also really enjoy the general Bloglovin’ Fashion blog for some reason… don’t ask me why I just find it entertaining…
Going through Old Clothes- I feel like organizing your closet is something everyone should do at least a few times a year- and it is actually something I am in the midst of doing right now. Going through your wardrobe not only allows you to get rid of items that you no longer fit into or wear, but it also allows you to rediscover items you forgot you owned. I know, it sound strange to be getting inspiration from yourself, but it happens every time I go through my closet… I find something I only wore once, or stashed away because it wasn’t in season, and then fall in love with it again.
Magazines- So I will admit that although I still have a couple of lingering magazine subscriptions, I rarely read them- I just feel like I don’t have the time or desire anymore… However, a couple of years ago I was all about magazines, so I still have piles and piles of them scattered all over my bedroom floor. I was going to throw them out; however I decided to turn them into inspiration boards instead. I know that asking someone to make an inspiration board is probably a bit too much to ask though, so if you don’t have time to do anything else- just rip out a couple pages with outfits you like and hang them in your room. I promise, being able to envision a cute outfit is so much easier when you have inspiration staring you right in the face.
And that’s going to be it for today! Hopefully you guys found it interesting seeing where I get my fashion inspiration, and if anyone wants to add something that I missed definitely let me know in the comments! I love hearing from you guys!
